Dubai, 14 August 2025 – In a move hailed as a win for convenience and modernization, the UAE Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) announced today that citizens can now renew their passports up to one year before expiry—doubling the previous six-month window. The update, set to come into effect on Monday, 18 August 2025, will be accessible through the Authority’s smart services platform.
ICP Chairman Ali Mohammed Al Shamsi emphasised the practical benefits of the change, including enabling earlier planning for international travel, ensuring timely processing of official documents, and supporting the adoption of secure digital identity services. He also highlighted how this change reinforces the global standing of the UAE passport, recognised for its strength and trustworthiness.
This adjustment reflects the UAE’s continued commitment to bridging convenience with innovation in public services—giving Emiratis added flexibility and predictability in managing one of their most essential documents.
