Data from the World Travel and Tourism Council for 2024 reveals that the United Arab Emirates continues to lead as one of the world’s top destinations for international tourism. International tourist spending in the country reached approximately AED 217.3 billion, with projections estimating a rise to AED 228.5 billion in 2025 — signaling a strong and sustainable recovery in the tourism sector.

According to the data, India topped the list of countries exporting tourists to the UAE, accounting for 14% of total international tourists. This was followed by the United Kingdom and Russia at 8% each, and China and Saudi Arabia at 5%. The remaining countries of the world contributed around 60% of the total inbound tourism.

Shifts in the Global Tourism Map

These figures reflect a significant shift in the global tourism landscape in favor of the UAE, supported by key factors such as:

  • Ease of visa acquisition for citizens of many countries, particularly in Asia and Europe.
  • Cultural and climatic diversity within the UAE, offering a rich experience that caters to various preferences.
  • Massive investments in hotel infrastructure and world-class entertainment landmarks.
  • Political and economic stability, providing tourists with a sense of security and confidence.

India: A Strategic Tourism Market

India’s leading position in the UAE tourism scene comes as no surprise. The Indian community is the largest in the UAE, and the number of daily flights between the two countries is steadily increasing. Additionally, a wide range of tourism services are tailored specifically to the preferences of Indian visitors.

Russia and the UK: Stability Amid Challenges

Despite geopolitical and economic challenges facing some markets, Russia and the UK have maintained their positions as major sources of tourism to the UAE. This underscores the UAE’s appeal as a destination resilient to global political fluctuations.

Looking Ahead to 2025

The projected increase in tourism spending to AED 228.5 billion in 2025 reflects growing global confidence in the UAE’s tourism sector, particularly with the launch of new initiatives such as international museums, entertainment cities, and the expansion of air travel networks.

Given these numbers, it is clear that the UAE is evolving beyond the role of a traditional “tourist destination” to become a global hub for luxury and diverse tourism. This presents tremendous opportunities for investors and decision-makers to build on this momentum and achieve further growth in the years ahead.
