In a bold digital move that could reshape the future of global travel, Emirates Airlines announced on July 9 the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Crypto.com to adopt cryptocurrencies as an official payment method. The initiative aims to keep pace with the rapid evolution in customer preferences and expand smart payment options.
Under the agreement, Emirates will begin integrating the Crypto.com Pay service, allowing travelers to book flights and conduct transactions using digital currencies within the airline’s ecosystem.
The signing ceremony took place in Dubai, in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group. The agreement was signed by Adnan Kazim, Chief Commercial Officer at Emirates, and Mohammed Al-Hakim, General Manager of Crypto.com in the UAE.
Emirates stated that this partnership is part of its broader digital strategy and reflects its early adoption of blockchain and cryptocurrency technologies, which began in 2022 when it announced plans to accept Bitcoin—driven by the UAE’s supportive regulatory environment.
Commenting on the agreement, Adnan Kazim said:
“This step aims to meet the expectations of a new generation of tech-savvy travelers who prefer innovative and flexible payment options using cryptocurrencies, thereby enhancing the travel experience.”
For his part, Eric Anziani, Chief Operating Officer of Crypto.com, noted that this partnership represents a significant step toward expanding the everyday use of cryptocurrencies and paves the way for broader adoption in global service sectors.
The service is expected to officially launch in 2026, following the completion of technical preparations and regulatory compliance. The two companies also plan to launch awareness and promotional campaigns to encourage the use of cryptocurrency payments among travelers.
