OpenAI announced on Thursday the launch of its new model, GPT-5, described as the most powerful in the company’s history — a move aimed at strengthening its position amid fierce competition with tech giants in the United States and China.

The new model boasts advanced capabilities in programming, creative writing, and solving complex queries using logic. According to CEO Sam Altman, GPT-5 represents “a major upgrade” that allows users to interact with a level of knowledge comparable to consulting a PhD-level expert.

One of its most notable features is “vibe coding,” where a user can write a brief text description of a problem, and the model will generate a complete and functional code solution. GPT-5 also excels in healthcare and the financial sector, expanding its utility beyond software development.

Despite praise for its abilities, some reviewers believe the jump from GPT-4 to GPT-5 is not as dramatic as previous version upgrades. The model also still lacks self-learning — a key element for fully simulating human capabilities.

The release of GPT-5 comes at a time when the AI industry is witnessing massive investment, with major companies such as Alphabet, Meta, Amazon, and Microsoft expected to spend nearly $400 billion this year on data centers and AI technologies, reflecting the huge stakes placed on the future of this technology.
