In a long-anticipated move, flydubai has announced the resumption of its direct flights to the Syrian capital Damascus, starting from June 1, 2025. With this step, flydubai becomes the first UAE airline to return to Syrian airspace after a 12-year hiatus.
The airline will operate daily flights from Terminal 2 at Dubai International Airport (DXB) to Damascus International Airport (DAM), strengthening air links between the UAE and Syria and opening new opportunities for travelers wishing to visit this historically rich city.
Commenting on the announcement, Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO of flydubai, said:
“We are pleased to be the first UAE airline to resume flights to Syria after a long pause. Damascus holds a special place in the region’s cultural and historical memory, and our return with a daily direct flight reflects our continued commitment to supporting the UAE’s efforts in enhancing regional connectivity.”
It’s worth noting that Damascus was among flydubai’s first destinations, with the airline launching flights there in June 2009—making this return more symbolic, reflecting the lasting ties between the two peoples.
This announcement follows the decision by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) in the UAE last April to allow the resumption of flights between the two countries—highlighting the development of bilateral relations and opening new channels of cooperation.
The resumption of these flights is not just a commercial move; it carries a message of hope for the entire region, reconnects families, and supports tourism and business sectors between the two nations.
