In a strategic and ambitious move to strengthen its position as an attractive investment hub, Oman announced in August 2025 the launch of the Golden Residency program for investors, offering a renewable ten-year business residency for investors and their families. This initiative comes as part of Oman’s Vision 2040, aimed at diversifying the economy and improving the overall business climate.
What is the Golden Residency?
It is a new government program that grants investors a renewable 10-year residency in Oman, which also covers their family members. It eliminates the need for a local sponsor, giving investors more independence in managing their investments.
Eligible Investment Pathways
- Purchasing property within Integrated Tourism Complexes
- Establishing a company in Oman
- Investing in listed shares or government bonds
- Making long-term deposits in local banks
- Granting residency to partners or key employees if 50 Omani jobs are created
Lower Minimum Investment Requirements
Previously, the minimum requirement was OMR 250,000 for a five-year residency or OMR 500,000 for a ten-year residency, with an alternative option of creating 50 Omani jobs. Now, the minimum has been reduced to OMR 200,000, while expanding investment options to include equities, cash deposits, real estate, and company formation, making the program more attractive.
Objectives and Strategic Goals
- Supporting Oman Vision 2040 by diversifying the economy and reducing reliance on oil
- Facilitating investment processes through the “Invest Oman” platform
- Enhancing quality of life in the Sultanate, which is recognized as one of the top destinations globally for stability and standard of living
Elite Companies Incentives
Alongside the Golden Residency program, Oman also launched the “Elite Companies” initiative in collaboration with government entities such as the Ministry of Labor and the Chamber of Commerce. This program provides recognition and incentives for companies that excel in governance, efficiency, exports, localization, and overall economic performance.
Regional Comparison and Competitive Edge
The UAE offers a Golden Visa for five or ten years tied to significant real estate or financial investments, while Saudi Arabia provides premium residency linked to larger investments. Qatar focuses mainly on real estate, while Bahrain combines property investment with income requirements. What makes Oman’s program stand out is its flexibility in investment options and faster processing time, which can take only a few weeks compared to several months in other countries.
The Golden Residency program is a strong step toward positioning Oman as a global investment destination. It offers a long-term stable residency of ten years, diverse investment pathways, faster processing, and a supportive private-sector environment. Combined with the launch of the Elite Companies initiative, Oman demonstrates its commitment to fostering sustainable economic growth through both local and foreign investment. This program represents a promising future for investors seeking secure residency, strong business opportunities, and a distinguished lifestyle in the heart of the Gulf.
