Saudi Arabia has announced the launch of a massive urban development project named King Salman Gate, located adjacent to the Grand Mosque in Makkah. The initiative reflects the ambitions of Vision 2030, aiming to enhance infrastructure and improve services provided to pilgrims and visitors.
The project spans nearly 12 million square meters of built-up area, making it one of the largest urban developments in the region. It will include integrated residential, service, and cultural complexes, in addition to vast prayer areas that can accommodate up to 900,000 worshippers at once.
It also features a dedicated zone of approximately 19,000 square meters to highlight Islamic and cultural heritage, while being directly connected to public transport networks to ease visitor access across Makkah.
The project is expected to create tens of thousands of direct and indirect job opportunities in the coming years, making it a key component of the Kingdom’s plans to diversify its economy and boost urban development.
“King Salman Gate” represents a milestone in projects surrounding the Grand Mosque, blending traditional Islamic architecture with modern design, while focusing on sustainability and delivering a smoother, more comfortable spiritual experience for millions of visitors annually.
