flydubai is turbocharging its growth in 2025, having taken delivery of seven Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft between April and August—and expecting five more before year-end. These additions are central to the airline’s ambitious strategy, marking a clear commitment to expanding both its fleet and global reach.

Strategic Takeoff

With seven new jets already in its lineup and five more on the way, flydubai’s fleet is set to exceed 95 aircraft by year-end. This expansion underpins the carrier’s mission to serve more than 135 destinations across 57 countries, unlocking new markets and bolstering Dubai’s reputation as a premier aviation hub.

Ghaith Al Ghaith, flydubai’s CEO, sees these deliveries as a testament to the airline’s long-term vision and confidence in the future of air travel. While the 12 new aircraft represent a leap forward, the airline notes it’s still behind schedule—running 20 units behind its original delivery forecasts—but views this as fuel for renewed momentum.

The financing behind the new fleet speaks volumes about flydubai’s credibility. The first seven aircraft were funded through a blend of Islamic financing from Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, conventional loans from RAKBANK, and sale-and-leaseback deals via JP Lease Products & Services and its Ireland-based subsidiary. This financial backing underlines the industry’s trust in the airline’s robust model.

Routes, Upgrades, and Talent

On the route front, flydubai introduced 11 new destinations in 2025—including popular spots like Antalya and Al Alamein, as well as more strategic additions like Damascus and Peshawar. Europe is next on the expansion map, with new services planned for Chișinău and Iași in September, followed by Vilnius and Riga in December.

Meanwhile, the cabin experience continues to get an upgrade. The airline’s ongoing retrofitting program for its Boeing 737-800s has already seen 23 aircraft revamped with premium business class lie-flat seats and enhanced in-flight entertainment in economy. The modernization push, which began in 2024, will run through 2026.

Growing the Team: Pilot Pipeline and Beyond

To power its expansion, flydubai has grown its workforce to over 6,500 employees—a 10% increase over the previous year. To build future talent, the airline has also launched a new Ab Initio Pilot Training Programme (MPL), designed to nurture the next generation of pilots who will help steer flydubai’s ambitious agenda.

flydubai is not just adding planes—it’s scaling up its vision. With a modernizing fleet, refreshed routes, a bigger team, and sound financial backing, the airline is well-positioned for an exciting trajectory ahead. For frequent travelers, industry watchers, or anyone invested in Dubai’s aviation leadership, flydubai’s momentum this year is one to watch.
