The Government of Pakistan has approved the transfer of operational management of Islamabad International Airport to the United Arab Emirates, under a government-to-government (G2G) cooperation framework agreement.

The decision was made during a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Inter-Governmental Commercial Transactions, chaired by H.E. Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan. The meeting was also attended by Petroleum Minister Tariq Bajwa, the Adviser on Privatization, the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, as well as several federal secretaries and senior officials from the concerned ministries.

A dedicated negotiation committee, headed by the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Privatization and comprising representatives from the Ministries of Defence, Finance, Law and Justice, and Privatization, will oversee the completion of arrangements with the UAE side under the framework agreement.

This initiative aims to enhance the efficiency of airport management and operations, attract greater foreign investment, and contribute to the development of infrastructure and the improvement of passenger services.
